Welcome to this case study for the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol); a corporate accounting and reporting standard, initiated by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development and the World Resources Institute.
PE Europe, a company from the consulting sector wants to give a practical example how to account for GHG emissions. Therefore, experiences how to follow the procedure to account for GHG emissions as a service, IT or consulting company are described, and recommendations how to identify the main contributors and where to get the necessary data are given.

Special focus is given to the question how to account for Scope 3 emissions.

The GHG Protocol guideline is divided into 10 chapters. See also "The GHG Protocol".

The 10 chapters of PE Europe's Greenhouse Gas Report are summarised  in the following three sections:

Procedure includes the points that we had to define in advance of the calculation, e.g. the balancing boundaries.

Calculating GHG shows the detailed accounting of the GHG emissions within PE Europe with a main focus on the typical emission contributors for a  consulting company.

Reporting includes the final steps after accounting GHG emissions following the GHG Protocol guidelines.
